The Bolz Center for Arts Administration is sad to announce the passing of longtime supporter and adviser Robert Mayer Bolz on January 19, 2009, at the age of 86. Bob, along with his brother Jack and mother Eugenie Mayer Bolz, provided the naming gift for the Bolz Center for Arts Administration in 1993, and committed on-going support toward a new era of impact and reach for our program in the years since then.
A respected businessman and highly engaged and responsive philanthropist and community leader, Bob served on the board of many cultural organizations, including the Wisconsin Historical Foundation, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art Board and Foundation, and the Madison Civic Music Association. He also served on the board of the Wisconsin School of Business, and was a significant supporter of the larger work of our school.
Bob's enthusiasm for the Bolz Center program, its students, and its alumni was as invaluable as the financial resources he and his family committed to our work. His presence will be missed. But his legacy will clearly last for generations -- through the life and work of our graduates, and through the continuing impact of the organizations and programs he stewarded throughout his life.
An obituary is available through the Wisconsin State Journal.
