Current Bolz Center student Derek Kwan had a brush with the Grammy Awards on February 8, 2006, as a recording he helped produce earned an award. Bebo De Cuba won the Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album. Kwan served as the recording's Associate Producer. Also nominated in the same category was Una Noche Inolvidable by the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O'Farrill, on which Kwan was co-producer.
Kwan helped produce both recordings while he was working in New York for Jazz at Lincoln Center, most recently as Associate Director of Programming and Concert Operations. He has production credits on over 60 jazz albums including the 2004 Latin Grammy Winner and 2004 Grammy-nominated Lagrimas Negras with Bebo Valdes and Diego El Cigala.
He entered the MBA degree in Arts Administration in Fall 2005.
