On October 17, a new theater work opened at the HEREArtsCenter on 6th Avenue in Manhattan. In a slight twist for a New York debut, the producer of the work, and a primary project collaborator, did not take a subway or taxi to get there, but an airplane from Madison, Wisconsin.
Jodi Beznoska, a first-year graduate student in the Bolz Center for Arts Administration degree program, helped launch this new company and new work about a year ago, before she came to the Midwest. Since August, she had been coordinating business elements of the production from Madison, while she studied principals of cultural management in the School of Business. From October 17 to 26, it all came together in a series of performances in SoHo.
Monster, a production of the start-up Present Tense Theater Project, built on the ancient myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, adding a modern comedic twist. More information on the debut is available on the web.
