Alumni Profiles:
Jeff Levine

Jeff LevineSince its first public events in 1861, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM for short) has become an international haven for contemporary performing artists, media arts, and film. Jeff Levine spends his days (and nights, often) ensuring that these good works find an audience and an opportunity to engage them.

As Vice President for Marketing & Communications for BAM, Jeff helps connect audiences with the arts for full spectrum of innovative events and spaces—from the mainstage performances to the NextWave festival to the BAMcafé.

Four Questions for Jeff

In one sentence, describe what you do...
"I plan and manage the marketing, press, public relations, design, and ticketing/customer service efforts for BAM's live events and film screenings."

What is the most rewarding part of your professional work?
"Being part of an organization whose brand and programs have local and international influence, but is still small and scrappy in its administration and budgeting to encourage/demand innovative thinking and avoid bureaucratic snags."

What is the most challenging?
"More often that not, 'small and scrappy' means 'understaffed and underbudgeted.'"

How does your graduate business training inform how you work?
"My professional life has been spent solely in performing arts organizations. Grad school helped me understand that the product I sell and the company I work for may be unique, but the principles of the marketplace are universal."
